Locally-filmed "Hell or Zhigh Water" has release date

The Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce announced Wednesday morning a release date for a Cannes Film Festival selection that was filmed locally last year.

According to Variety, "Hell or High Water" will open in limited release Aug. 12, with an expanded release Aug. 19 and full release Aug. 26.

The movie, starring Jeff Bridges (“The Big Lebowski”), Chris Pine (“Star Trek”) and Ben Foster (“Lone Survivor”), was partially shot in parts of Clovis, Portales and Tucumcari last May. Its title at the time was "Comancheria."

The film is directed by British director David Mackenzie. The plot involves two brothers who, in an effort to save the West Texas family farm from foreclosure, plan to rob a bank while two Texas Rangers attempt to capture them.

The Cannes Film Festival selected "Hell or High Water" as of the opening films of this year’s festival from May 11-22. It one of 19 films listed as part of the festival’s Un Certain Regard portion of the Official Selection.
