City renews MainStreet, Chamber of Commerce agreement

QCS Senior Writer

City commissioners approved the renewal of the lease for the Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce and agreement with Tucumcari MainStreet, both of which have helped promote and improve Tucumcari.

"The chamber has done an amazing job of promoting the city through various forms of advertising throughout the state, nationally and internationally, said City Manager Jared Langenegger.

Langenegger said he and the city's legal counsel agree that the 10-year lease contract -- which calls for $1 annually or in-kind services -- is acceptable. He said given how much the city benefits from the chamber’s activities, it makes sense to renew the lease.

“I want to thank the commissioners for renewing the contract and allowing us to continue to promote Tucumcari,” said chamber director Gail Sanders.

Tucumcari MainStreet has brought back $32,000 into the community and has received several grants that will aid in the beautification and revitalization of the downtown area, said Gail Houser, MainStreet director.

“Tucumcari MainStreet has been valuable in the development of our downtown area,” Langenegger said.

The commission approved a four-year contract at $35,000 a year.

In other business, the commission:

• Approved the request for assistance in funding for the Elks Lodge 1172 Fourth of July fireworks display.

• Approved the appointment of Rachel Burch to the Library Advisory Board.

• Approved the waiver of business license fee for Sun Valley Rides, LLC, for the Quay County Fair midway.

• Approved the 2017 beautification grant agreement for $9,300 that will be used for clean up projects in the city.

• Approved the awarding of the request for proposal of the old and new landfill engineering services to Gordon Environmental, Inc., of Albuquerque.

• Gave support for the submission of a letter supporting the consideration of EMS Tariff Changes by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
