Don’t be quick to judge

Scooter and Jeanette Mitchell have been friends of Myrna’s and mine for over a decade.

We watched their two daughters grow into the fine young ladies that we see today. We campaigned for him when he ran for district judge in 2008 when he won and we have campaigned for him ever since.

In 2014, a group of people calling themselves The Committee for Law and Order decided to try to recall Judge Mitchell. Funded primarily by Warren Frost, the committee placed full-page ads in the Quay County Sun that contained nothing but distortions and half-truths.

They sent many mailers out to voters containing the same distortions. When I saw the donation list on the secretary of state’s website, I knew that he would have the same opponent that he had run against in 2008.

I guess I had too much faith in the people of the three counties thinking they could read between the lines in these ads and see that the accusations were false.

The voters believed these insinuations against Judge Mitchell and voted to recall him. What really bothers me is the fact that I still find a lot of people today that believe those ads.

Enough people rallied around Judge Mitchell in 2014 and let the governor know who they really wanted for judge of the Tenth Judicial District. And she appointed him to that position.

He now faces the same opponent that he has gone against twice before and defeated.

I hope that enough voters will see these accusations in the past were false and vote for Albert J. “Scooter” Mitchell on June 7. I will.
