Game and fish to hold meeting in Santa Rosa

The New Mexico Game Commission will meet on June 23 in Santa Rosa to consider numerous matters, including updates on the Gold King Mine spill and the department’s Hunters Helping the Hungry program.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m., at the Blue Hole Convention Center, Civic Center Room, 1085 Blue Hole Road, Santa Rosa.

The public is invited to join commissioners as they tour the department’s Rock Lake Fish Hatchery at 1:30 p.m., on June 22 located at 1025 Hatchery Road, east of town about 2.5 miles off River Road. For more details, see the constituency tour agenda at http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us.

Other agenda items include:

• A discussion about the use of trail cameras and other technology in relation to hunting in New Mexico.

• The State Land Commissioner will present a proposed lease agreement for public access to state trust lands for the 2017-2018 hunting season.

• An update on proposed youth hunting opportunities and habitat expansion projects for bighorn sheep on the Wedding Cake Ranch in northeastern New Mexico.
