Canning workshop planned

Staff Report

Residents who have been thinking about learning how to can food will have the chance to learn the steps at a beginners canning workshop on June 30 at the Quay County Extension Office.

The workshop will be an introduction to the equipment, basic procedures, and food safety issues involved with food preservation and specifically canning, according to Brenda Bishop, county extension agent.

Bishop said during this free workshop, instructors will discuss the equipment needed for various foods, good sources of information, step-by-step procedures, and what you need to know to keep your family safe. She said there are three time options for residents to choose from: noon, 1:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. The program will last about 90 minutes, with time for questions.
