Events funding cut due to decrease in Lodger's Tax fund

Staff Report

Because of a reduction of funding from the lodger's tax, Tucumcari city commissioners had to reduce the funding of next years events by $21,410.

The lodger’s tax board had originally requested funding of $94,410 for the Rockabilly on the Route, Tucumcari Rawhide Days, Fired Up! and Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce.

The reduction of the funds generated by the tax forced the commission to reduce all funding amounts, said City Manager Jared Langenegger.

The commission also approved the submission for an application to the New Mexico Department of Transportation for the repair of the city’s walking and jogging trail on West Barnes Avenue.

The application is requesting a total of $111,891 for the repairs to the walking/jogging trail, said Ralph Lopez, community development project director.

Lopez said the amount requested with be in the form of $95,599.67 in grant and $16,291 in local possible in-kind match.

In other action, the commission:

• Approved a contract with the NMDOT for a grant of $36,820 and $12,273 in-kind local match for sidewalk and gutter improvements on Second Street.

• Approved the awarding of the bid for the Daubs II edition to Desert Fox LLC., for $451,990.

• Approved the agreement to provide the Tucumcari Convention Center to the Rockabilly on the Route for $500.
