This fishing report has been generated from the best information available from officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Northeast
Clayton Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait and spinners for trout. Fishing was fair using worms and liver for small catfish. The best reports have come from anglers fishing early and late in the day.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using top water lures, worms, salt craws, tubes, lizards and curly tail grubs for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits and top water lures for white bass. Night fishing was fair to good using shrimp, liver and prepared baits for catfish. Fishing was fair using curly tail grubs for walleye. The surface water temp was in the low to mid 80s.
Ute Lake: Night fishing continued good for anglers using cut bait and liver on trout lines for catfish. Fishing was fair to good using tubes, drop shot rigs and senkos for smallmouth bass in 12 to 14 feet of water. A few were also taken on top water lures. Fishing was fair using jigs and curly tail grubs in 25 to 28 feet of water for walleye. White bass fishing was sporadic with a few caught by anglers trolling crank baits. The surface water temp was in the mid 80s.
Southeast
Blue Hole Park Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was slow to fair in the early morning and late evening hours using cut bait and liver for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was fair using senkos, tubes, Pop Rs, crank baits and jerk baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair to good using chicken liver, cut bait and shrimp for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was fair using crank baits, tubes, senkos, creature baits, top water lures and jerk baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using shrimp and frozen crawdads for catfish. Fishing was fair using minnows, grubs and crank baits for white bass and an occasional walleye. We had no reports on other species.
Catches of the week
Santa Rosa Lake: Eddie Crawford of Albuquerque caught a 22-inch, 6-pound, 4-ounce smallmouth bass July 22. He was using a black and blue jig.
