Lady Rattlers volleyball will start season with new coach

The Tucumcari Lady Rattlers varsity volleyball team will feature six returning seniors but will be under the direction of new head coach Dana Benavidez.

“We have not begun official practices yet but the girls have already begun working on their fundamentals and conditioning,” Benavidez said.

Benavidez said the prospects for this season are exciting. Along with the six returning seniors, 25 girls have expressed interest in playing this season. She said not only will they have a full varsity and junior varsity teams the Lady Rattlers could see the start of a C team in order to give players floor time.

“The girls are very optimistic and excited about the season and we are ready to represent our community,” Benavidez said.

Former head coach Lawrence Sena accepted an administrative position in a different school district.
