Volunteers and familes of the county’s 4-h and FFA members are hard at work preparing for the 2016 Quay County Fair Aug. 17 - 20 at the Quay County Fairgrounds.
For many of the county’s 4-H and FFA members it represents the completion of year long projects, said Brenda Bishop, county extension agent.
Aug. 16
Pre-fair activities of moving out to the fair setting up for those with animals and commercial booths. All animals and open class entries must be on the grounds and entered by noon.
The Home Arts Departments will be accepting entries from 5 p.m., to 7 p.m.
The fair kicks off at 5 p.m., with the Shepherd’s Lead followed by the Swine show around 7 p.m.
The exhibit hall will open at 5:00 p.m. and the 4-H concession will open at 5:30 p.m.,
Aug. 17
The rabbit and poultry show has been moved to 10 a.m., Aug. 17, with support from the community the building has had many repairs and now has new cages and hutches.
The youth with sheep and goats will be busy during the day preparing their animals for the shows that begin at 5 p.m. After the goat show, the catch-it-heifer contest will be held at the Quay County Rodeo Arena.
Aug. 19
The horse show will begin at 7 a.m., with 4-H members competing for buckles.
At 2:00 p.m. everyone is invited to attend the watermelon feed
The heifer and steer shows will begin at 4:30 p.m., following the steer show, the exhibitors will meet to find out who gets into the sale.
Aug 20
Family day at the fair.
10 a.m., Itty Bitty Rodeo hosted by the 4-H Council Officers in the Show Arena
1 p.m., Pet Parade hosted by High Plains 4-H Club in the Show Arena
1 p.m., Horse Shoe Pitching Contest at the Pits North of the Travis Nelson Building
2 p.m., Bluegrass Music in the Exhibit Hall
2:30 p.m., Scavenger Hunt hosted by 4-H Council Officers
6 p.m., Junior Livestock Sale in the Show Arena
9p.m., Release Exhibits
The exhibit hall will be open each day from 9 a.m., to 9 p.m.,
The 4-H Concession Stand will be open Aug. 17-18 beginning at 5:30 pm and Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 at 11 a.m.
The exhibit hall will have over 30 vendors and the Eastern New Mexico Bluegrass Association will be playing from 2 p.m., to 7 p.m., Aug. 18-20.
Sun Valley Rides has been providing the carnival for us the past four years carnival with rides beginning each evening at 5 p.m.
The fair board has 500 pre-sale carnival tickets are on sale now for $18. Once the pre-sell tickets are sold we cannot get more,
