Local organization donates school supplies to Logan schools

A local organization’s desire to help and the generosity of a community helped ensure Logan students are equipped with school supplies.

“I cannot say enough about the community’s support of the students of this school,” said Tommy Thompson, principal of Logan municipal school.

In July, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 77 voted to hold a donation drive for school supplies, said Karen Harcrow, the education chair.

Harcrow said the Auxiliary heard about families that needed help buying school supplies.

“A child’s education is so important,” Harcrow said. “The student should focus on learning. They should not have to worry about having the right supplies for the class.”

Harcrow said donation boxes were set up at the American Legion Post 77 and Legion Bingo hall in Logan. She said the donations were presented to Thompson a week before the start of classes.

“The response from the community is amazing,” Harcrow said. “It is heartwarming to see the amount of donations that came in from the people.”

Thompson said he had spoken to parents who needed help purchasing supplies for their children.

“We are committed to doing all that we can to ensure the students of our school receive a quality education,” Thompson said. “Thanks to the generous donation, we were able to address an early need for our students.”
