Letter to the Editor: Trump not fit for office

It is amazing that public opinion polls have Hillary and Trump in a close race for the presidency. The truth is that a sizable number of us have not bothered to go to the trouble to determine the facts.

When it comes to lying, Trump is in a class all by himself. “Politico” spent a week checking statements by Hillary and Trump. There was no comparison. He lied four times more than Hillary. In one week, he misstated, exaggerated or spoke falsehoods 87 times. He averaged one untruth every 3.5 minutes.

His slogan — “make America great again” — is dog-whistle politics for make America white again.

His trade agenda would assure a recession.

The economic plan he proposes would give all the tax breaks to the rich and would increase the deficit by a conservative estimate of $3 trillion.

His pledge to get rid of the Affordable Care Act would cause millions of citizens to lose their health insurance. Most advanced nations solved this problem generations or years ago.

Renegotiating our debt obligations would seriously affect the financial stability of our country, possibly the world.

Trump says global warming is a hoax, but uses that to get a barrier built to protect his golf course in England.

He changes positions faster than a skater or a ballerina doing a pirouette.

He refuses to release his tax returns, something all candidates have done for years. Trump University is under investigation for numerous complaints of fraud. He has declared bankruptcies several times and he benefits while creditors lose. Many highly respected people — Republicans, Democrats, retired high-ranking military commanders, ex-presidents — say he is not fit to be president.
