• Ronnie Gollehon of House won a trip to the National 4-H convention, a prize for the New Mexico 4-H beautification of home ground contest.

• Five cheerleaders from Tucumcari High School were chosen as All-State football cheerleaders after competing at the north side competition held in Artesia. The cheerleaders were Donna Warnaka, Helen Miller, Joyce Watkins, Patricia Bowen and Sharon Baker.

• Quay County Deputy Sheriff Newell Ramsey arrested three Oregon teenagers in connection with attempted vehicle theft in Logan and discovered cash from burglaries under investigation in Portland. The three teens were taken to the county jail where they were arraigned for the car thefts and awaited extradition back to Oregon.

• The Tucumcari Chamber of Commerce elected new directors. They were Ben Munoz, Art Snyder, Drews Riska, H.H. Bryant and Howard Maudlin.
