Man struck, killed on I-40

A Tucumcari man was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday on Interstate 40 near Montoya while attempting to tow a commercial vehicle.

On Sunday at 4:20 p.m., state police officers were dispatched to mile marker 318 on I-40 in reference to a fatal motor vehicle crash.

According to a New Mexico State Police press release, Robert Unruh, 37, sustained fatal injuries when he stepped into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle. Unruh as pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling west on I-40 when it struck Unruh.

No additional information was available. The vehicle crash is still under investigation.
