• E. E. Rivers, a resident of Quay County, was hired as secretary of the Tucumcari Chamber of Commerce for the year, according to an announcement released by R. C. Sandusky, president of the organization.

• Kenneth Ayres had a story that’s “one for Ripley’s.” One of his 8-month-old white Leghorn pullets laid an egg that tipped the scales at just under 8 ounces. The king-sized egg measured 8 3/4 inches at its largest circumference and 7 3/4 inches the short way.

• J. O. Robinson was elected commander of the local post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Other officers elected were Dan Kelly Jr., senior vice commander, Clayborn Davidson, junior vice commander, Florence Wallace, quartermaster, Fred S. Witty, post advocate, William H. Watson, chaplain, Seymour Rusk, surgeon, and Hurshel Curry, James Funk and John A. McIntosh, trustees.
