The Al G. Kelley-Miller Bros. Circus, the second largest in the country, put on two shows on Route 66 just east of town.

• Killingsworth construction started the first alley paving project in Tucumcari with 17 downtown alleys slated to be paved .

• Two FBI firearms instructors were in town to conduct a special training course for the Tucumcari Police Department.

• The city commission budgeted for an across-the-board 5 percent pay increase for city employees.

• Maxine Reynolds, 18, representing Cresent Creamery, was named the Quay County Dairy Princess.

• The county clerk announced the issuance of the first two marriage licenses since a new state law was enacted requiring blood tests.
