A Tucumcari man and woman ere arrested Tuesday after a fight led to gunshots that struck a residence on the 500 block of South Monroe Street in Tucumcari.

Shane Bursie, 30, and Janeen Garcia, 37, were both booked into the Quay County Detention Center charged with one count of shooting at a dwelling or occupied building and shooting at or from a motor vehicle. Bursie was also charged with aggravated assault.

"Fortunately no one was injured by the gun fire," said Pete Rivera, Tucumcari deputy police chief.

Rivera said at 2:05 p.m., officers responded to a report of a fight with shots fired on the 500 block of South Monroe Street. He said upon their arrival, officers were told that a fight between two individuals and a male and female, later identified as Bursie and Garcia, had occurred in the street. The fight escalated and shots were fired striking a nearby residence, Rivera added.

Rivera would not release the names of the other two individuals, citing an ongoing investigation.

"Through interviews with witnesses, the officers were able to get a description of a vehicle that fled the scene," Rivera said. "There were several spent shell casing on the ground."

Rivera said the Quay County Sheriff's Office located the vehicle near the 700 block of Rock Island. He said Garcia was located a short time later and taken into custody. Bursie was believed to be hiding in one of the apartments on the 600 block of East McGee Avenue, Rivera added.

"Bursie exited an apartment, was spotted by the deputies and was taken into custody without incident," Rivera said.

Bursie and Garcia are still being held at QCDC with no bond. It was not immediately known if either had an attorney.
