Meetings watch - Nov. 29

Quay County Commission

At their Nov. 27 meeting, Quay County commissioners took the following actions:

• Quay County Manager Richard Primrose requested the approval of road use and maintenance agreements for Casa Mesa Wind LLC and FPL Energy New Mexico Wind LLC. Primrose said the two agreements would be between the county and the company that will be upgrading the existing wind turbine farm and constructing a new farm near House.

“This agreement has not been required by the county in the past,” Primrose said. “The company officials have requested this agreement.”

Primrose said the agreement would state that the company would return to the original state or improve the county roads used in the construction and maintenance of the wind farms.

This is a win-win for the county, it also shows just how much the wind farm companies are willing to work with the county,” said Mike Cherry, District 2 Commissioner.

The agreements were approved.

• Quay County Fire Marshall Donald Adams requested the approval of the 2019 EMS Funds Act Local System Improvement Project Application for $9,400. Adams said there is no match required by the county to receive this grant that would be used to purchase automatic defibrillator and training with the devices for District 1 fire department.

“Will there be an issue with the application being submitted after the Nov. 15 deadline,” Cherry asked.

Primrose said Michelle Jayes has contacted the officials for this grant and was told they would accept the late application.

“Michelle has done a lot of work putting this grant together, I would like to applaud her for her hard work,” said Sue Dowell District 1 Commissioner.

The application was approved.

• Quay County Commission Chair Franklin McCasland, Cherry and Dowell acknowledged Presbyterian Medical System Clinic Providers Ladonna Chacon and Lisa Crane for receiving the Exemplary Improvement Award from HealthInsight New Mexico.

“Last month the reports show there were more than 500 encounters at the clinic, that is a testament to the service you all provide,” McCasland said.

Chacon said the award represents the team effort put in by all of the staff, providers at the clinic.

“For 2 1/2, years Ladonna and I have worked with an amazing staff,” Crane said. “From our office staff answering the calls, setting up appointment to our medical assistants performing task, this award is for the entire clinic.”
