The following are Q&A’s for candidates on the Logan Village Council. Russell D. Feerer and Dave Shivers are running for a two-year term on the council’s Position 2.

What qualifies you as the best candidate for the office you are seeking?
My experience in the Village Council for the past 10 years, this last year serving at the interim mayor. What are your community’s two or three biggest issues?
Water is always going to be an issue, not just protecting the water in Ute Lake, but our drinking water as well.
The roads are another priority but there are limited funds to complete or repair those roads. The rains from last fall damaged several roads, many in need of major repair but it takes time and prioritizing to get that work done. There is a large expense in road projects, surveys, engineering cost and then the actual street work.
What are your community’s biggest strengths?
We have a diverse population, people with a broad range of experience that could be used to help in the growth of our community. “The people make this community wonderful, they are the ones that make it a destination for tourist, residents to start lives and retire.”
What do you want to see your community accomplish while you’re in office?
I would like to bring the community together to work as one towards a common goal. There could be a lot more constructive work done if the council and the community worked as one.
Dave Shivers
What qualifies you as the best candidate for the office you are seeking?
“It’s not about being the best qualified, it’s more about being concerned about keeping the community together,” Shivers said.
As a concerned citizen I would like to have a hand in helping the community prosper.
What are your community’s two or three biggest issues?
There are a lot of good things going on, the senior center is such a wonderful organization. “It is a program that is close to my heart,” Shivers said.
I want to make sure that we can find the funding to help keep the services they offer our community going for years to come.
There have been a lot of people asking about dumping cost at our landfill. We have a nice landfill and the cost are necessary to maintain the site.
I think informing the public on the process, cost restraints associated with the upkeep of the infrastructure is important.
What are your community’s biggest strengths?
Logan’s biggest strength and attraction is Ute Lake. The Chamber of Commerce has done a great job in keeping that asset advertised and planning events that incorporate our natural resource. “I think it is vital to secure the future of the water in Ute Lake for our community’s future,” Shivers said. “
What do you want to see your community accomplish while you’re in office?
I would like to get the residents more involved with the functions of the Village. There are a lot of people with great ideas and a desire and we all need to work together to see our community prosper.

Larry Wallin and Barry Bass are running for a four-year term on the council’s Position 3.
Larry R. Wallin
What qualifies you as the best candidate for the office you are seeking?
Experience, as a former village manager of more than 20 years. In that time I have gained a lot of knowledge of the day-to-day operations and functions of the Village. During my time working for the Village I consider myself to be a trustworthy public servant.
What are your community’s two or three biggest issues?
The biggest issue is keeping the water in Ute Lake. If there is no water in the lake then there will not be a need for a village council. Protecting the water has always been a focus of mine.
Another issue is keeping up with the infrastructure of the village, that including roads, drinking water. The problem is the cost of maintaining the infrastructure and the funding available. Priorities have to be set, that doesn’t make you the most popular among the people. The problems also change in an instant. There was a lot of roads damaged by the rain and suddenly the priority shifted to roads.
What are your community’s biggest strengths?
Our biggest strength is the residents of Logan. The residents are very independent, they don’t like outside influences coming in and telling them what they are going to do with their resources (water) or how to live their lives.
What do you want to see your community accomplish while you’re in office?
I want us to go back to pulling as one unit towards the betterment of the entire community. I don’t want to see Logan separated into special interest groups pulling us into several different directions.
Barry T. Bass
What qualifies you as the best candidate for the office you are seeking?
It would be somebody new on the council, a change. I have lived here for 25 years (and sometimes) have never gotten an answer. I would like to be the voice of the people.
What are your community’s two or three biggest issues?
1.The water, drinking water is such a big priority, there are times the water has had a dark color due to minerals deposits. There needs to be an answer to how we can address the issue.
2. The roads. It is self explanatory if you have driven in Logan. There needs to be a maintenance schedule of what roads we can fix. Put on a plan so the people know the roads are being looked at and not passed over. It depends on the funding .
3. Liability of the village employee, there are issues with employees not having the proper equipment to do their job safely. That needs to be addressed.
What are your community’s biggest strengths?
The people are our community’s biggest strength. We need to get more of the public involved in the governing body. The people and the council have to work together for the community to have a productive voice and impact.
What do you want to see your community accomplish while you’re in office?
Bringing our community together as one. If we can do that then everything else will be simple.
