Rattlers top Dora

Rattlers will look to carry the momentum of Monday's seventh inning rally win over Dora into their upcoming double header at Laguna Acoma.

Two outs, a 3-2 count and Lady Rattlers right fielder, Tianna Peterson, said all she could think about was making contact with ball.

Peterson's final swing was a line drive down the first base line, the Lady Coyotes first baseman could not field the ball in time allowing the winning run to cross home plate.

"We keep telling the girls to believe in their ability and not give up when the game seems out of hand," said Donnie Garcia, Lady Rattlers head coach.

The Lady Rattlers (3-2, 2-0) rallied back with 6 runs in the final inning Monday night at Tucumcari to stun the visiting Lady Coyotes (3-3, 0-1).

Trailing 9-4, Lady Rattlers third baseman Jenna Garcia started things off with a triple, RBI. Lady Rattlers short stop Kalani French and second baseman Angel Sandoval followed things up with doubles bringing in 2 RBI for the tie with no outs.

"I knew I had to come up big," Sandoval said. "I had two strikes and this was my last chance to make a difference."

Garcia said the rally will boost the confidence of the Lady Rattlers as they prepare to travel Thursday to Laguna Acoma for a double header. He said the Lady Rattlers still have to work on some errors on fielding errors that gave the Lady Coyotes opportunities to extend their lead.

"The girls showed a lot of heart, they came together to win a game that seemed out of reach," Garcia said.

The Logan Lady Longhorns (0-3, 0-2) have a game on Monday at 4 p.m., against the Lady Rams at Portales.

Rattlers play first game Saturday

The Tucumcari Rattlers (4-3) will play their first District 5-A/3A baseball game on Saturday against the Lions at Santa Rosa.

"The team got a chance to look at Santa Rosa during last weekends tournament," said Dwayne Roberts, Rattlers head coach.

Roberts said the Rattlers learned a lot during the tournament and came away with a third place finish. He said pitcher Josh Walker and third baseman Alijah Jimenez earned all tournament awards.

"We've still got to work on eliminating errors," Roberts said. "We were able to hit the ball well but kept giving other teams chances with errors."

The Rattlers played Estancia on Tuesday at Tucumcari. The results of that game were not available before publication.

Game time: 1 p.m., Saturday at Santa Rosa.

The Logan Longhorns (1-5, 1-5) will play the Dora Coyotes on Monday at 4 p.m., in a District 5-1A/3A match up at Logan.
