Family, home saved from blaze

The quick actions of a neighbor and the Village of Logan’s Volunteer Fire Department saved the lives of residents, the family pet and the home.

The fire department was first paged out at 3:45 a.m,. on Saturday morning to a report of a recreation vehicle fire, said Rex Stall, Logan Fire Chief.

Stall said when he arrived on the scene on the 500 block of Zuni, the fire had fully engulfed the RV and a passenger car and had begun spreading to the carport. He said the firefighters began efforts to control and extinguish the fire.

Stall said he and a neighbor woke the residents and alerted them of the fire. He said they evacuated the house while the crew worked to put the fire out.

“The RV and care were a total loss; however, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from damaging the home,” Stall said. “There is some smoke damage and burn marks from the flames but it was not as bad as it could have been.”

The owners of the residence, Glenda and Sidney Chandler Duncan were not available for comment but expressed their appreciation to the neighbor and firefighters on Facebook.

‘Want to say a very big thank you to Logan Volunteer Fire Department for a quick response and saving our house. Although we lost the RV our car, carport, and had some smoke damage in house we will be OK. I know we have said thank you but we mean it from bottom of our hearts. It’s good to have neighbors helping neighbors.’
