• Linda Kinkead of Tucumcari was selected as the Rodeo Queen for Eastern New Mexico Univeristy in Portales. Kinkead was a sophomore at ENMU and won the title during a campus wide election.
• Tucumcari mayor Earl Grau cut a ribbon in front of the Montgomery Ward and Comapany with store manager Mrs. W.R. Pfingston.
• Newell Rose of San Jon had many century plants growing in his 700-plant cactus garden.
• The new cafereria was completed at the Mountain View Elementary School. The new building cost $86,000 and the new cafeteria will be able to house 350 students from the Mountain View and Four Points schools.
• Joe P. Garcia of Tucumcari was installed as commander of the Rhodes Walter Post 20, American Legion in Tucumcari.
