Vote to protect science, public good

Whenever anyone comes up with an idea to benefit those of us who may be in need, through no fault of their own, conservatives immediately start accusations of “Socialism.”

No one has advocated socialism. The charge is used against anything designed to take some of the rough edges off our economic system.

We are the only wealthy country that does not have universal health care and the Affordable Care Act was not socialized medicine. The problem was it cut into the profits of some highly influential parties. The same is true of our failure to control soaring drug prices. Technically it would be simple to fix — politically, nigh on to impossible.

There was a governmental bureau that served the public good: Consumer Finance Protection Bureau. This was the product of that notorious socialist, Elizabeth Warren. The CFPB returned over $12 billion to consumers due to nefarious activities by various financial organizations. Conservatives put a financial lap dog in charge. So much for public good.

There are some highly regarded conservative economists — they just are not what is in demand by the conservatives in charge. The conservatives are enthralled by their ideology of government can do nothing — no controls, tax cuts, trickle-down economics, no safety nets for those shiftless takers, completely free market, which has never existed. Factual rebuttal has no effect.

The most vital portion of the conservative agenda is the disregard of science, especially in global warming. Citizens are in favor of addressing the problem — but not the politicians and the moneyed interests involved.

We only have one planet. Vote to protect science, hence the planet, and public good.
