Prep football: Logan drubs Steers

Logan earned its first eight-man football victory of the season in resounding fashion Friday with a 50-6 drubbing at Magdalena.

Logan (1-2) was led by Kyle Knight’s 214 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 31 carries. Chase Hitson also rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.

The Longhorns totaled nearly 400 yards rushing and 30 first downs.

Logan coach Chase Disney said cutting back on turnovers and making defensive adjustments were keys to the game. Instead of a two-man defensive front, Disney said his team used a three-man attack with lots of movement.

As a result, the Longhorns forced six turnovers and caused jittery Magdalena (1-1) to be flagged for six false-start penalties on its first possession.

“We had them guessing the whole time,” Disney said.

Logan held a 28-0 lead at halftime.

The Longhorns’ next game is at 8 p.m. Central time Saturday at Boise City, Oklahoma.

San Jon/Grady 73, Hondo 58

The San Jon / Grady squad took control early and cruised to a 73-58 victory during a six-man football game Friday at Hondo Valley.

Ethan Short and Dustin Bryant each scored three touchdowns in the first half as the Coyotes (2-1) seized an early 39-12 lead and went into the locker room at halftime with a 59-31 advantage over the Eagles (1-2).

The Coyotes have a bye week before playing at home against Roy / Mosquero at 1 p.m. Sept. 21.
