Lady Rattlers earn an easy win

The Tucumcari volleyball team on Thursday earned a rare easy win, defeating Maxwell 25-10, 25-17, 25-17 on the road.

The Lady Rattlers improved to 3-12 overall and have won two of their last three matches.

Tucumcari coach Dena Benavidez, imploring her players to focus on improving their play before upcoming district matches, said her squad had shown progress in recent weeks.

“We played well, passed well and did all the basic things we needed to do to win,” she said. “It’s all starting to click, and they’re improving day to day.”

The Bears fell to 1-9 overall.

The Rattlers' next match is at Desert Academy in Santa Fe starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Logan 3, Fort Sumner 1

After a 20-25 loss in the first game, Logan dominated Fort Sumner 25-7, 25-11, 25-18 the rest of the way during a district-match victory Saturday.

The Lady Longhorns, ranked fourth in Class A, improved to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in district play.

The Vixens fell to 6-8 overall, 1-1 in district play.

Logan next plays at area rival Grady starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in a district matchup.

Grady/San Jon 3, Clovis Christian 1

Grady/San Jon prevailed by a 25-13, 25-14, 19-25, 25-17 score during a district match Oct. 2 at Clovis Christian.

The Lady Bronchos, ranked ninth in Class A, improved to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in district play.

The Eagles fell to 2-8 overall, 0-3 in the district.
