4-H honors achievements

Quay County 4-H held its end-of-the-year achievement program Nov. 18 at the Quay County Fair Exhibit Center in Tucumcari.

The Roadrunner 4-H Club served as the host. Quay County 4-H began the program by honoring those who helped the program grow and succeed.

Honorary memberships were given to Devin and Debbie Kanapilly, Dustin Nials and Annie McCauley.

Meritorious Service Awards were given to R&R Line Service, FNB New Mexico and BPO Elks Lodge 1172.

Friend of 4-H Awards recipients were Carolyn Franklin and Teresa Hampton.

The Volunteer of the Year award went to Amy Smith.

The County Leader of the Year award went to Ralph Lopez.

The Club Leader of the Year honor went to Joyce Runyan.

The Collegiate Award went to Reagan Runyan, Trestin Peterson and Bailey Smith.

Achievement and Outstanding awards are selected by the county, judging the books for overall accomplishments.

First Year: Peyton Merrill and Brandon Gonzales

Novice: MiKayla Klinger and Greyson Bollinger

Junior: Paul Urquizu and Antonio Gonzales

Senior: Natalie Hayes and Trestin Peterson

Outstanding 4-Her of the Year is its greatest honor; it was given to:

First Year: Brandy Smith and Carter Smith

Novice: Michael Oglesby and Ashton Smith

Junior: Robert Evans and Brookel Smith

Senior: Tate Hill and Tianna Peterson

Receiving Quay County 4-H Letterman Awards in 2018 were Amber Rivera, Natalie Hayes, Garrett Bollinger and Dyson Clark.

Being recognized for their work as club or council secretaries were Brookel Smith, Natalie Hayes, Greyson Bollinger and Lucia Benavidez. The 2017/2018 Outstanding Secretary was Greyson Bollinger.

The 2017/2018 Outstanding Treasurer was Ashton Smith.

The I Dare You award winners were Garrett Bollinger and Rilee Nials.

Parents being recognized for years of service were:

First Year: John Snipes, Valerie Snipes, Estella Cribbs, Shank Cribbs and Chad Becerra.

Fifth year: Brad Bryant, Julie Bryant, Misti Gibson, Becky Whitson, Wade Whitson, Steve DeLuca, Sylvia DeLuca, Sandra Evans, Beth Fair, John Fair, Amanda Hammer, James Hammer, Marci Oliver, Wayland Oliver and Gail Owen.

10th Year: Amanda Montoya, Kristie Peterson and Steve Peterson.

Cloverbuds who completed a record book received a gift bag of prizes.

Completing their first Cloverbud Record Book were Cera Lowe, Kean Pendley and Cierra Urquizu.

Completing their second Cloverbud Record Book were Aaron Tompkins and Savannah Urquizu.

4-Hers complete a detailed record book of activities and expenses associated with their projects. These books are judges by parents in another county, and those receiving a high enough score are awarded project pins.
