Ballots on way in early January

Registered voters in the Tucumcari school district should begin to receive ballots in early January during the county's first mail-in election Feb. 5.

The district is submitting a question to voters on whether to renew a two-mil property tax for capital improvements. The district is covering the election's mailing costs.

The clerk's office stated in a news release every registered voter in the district will receive an official ballot in the mail about Jan. 8.

There will be no polling places. Residents in the district must be registered by Jan. 8 to vote.

A voter may mail back the postage-paid ballot or hand-deliver it to the clerk's office at 301 S. Third St. in Tucumcari. Ballots must be received no later than 7 p.m. Feb. 5.
