Three arrested in connection with burglary

Three people were arrested last week on felony charges after being accused in connection with at least one burglary in Logan.

The people detained were:

• Bernadine Gutierrez, 56, of Logan, on one count of residential burglary;

• Stanley Ralph Brown, 56, of Logan, on one count of residential burglary;

• Lawrence W. Barranca, 55, of Tucumcari, on one count of receiving stolen property (over $500 but not more than $2,500) and one count of tampering with evidence.

All of the complaints were filed Wednesday in Quay County Magistrate Court in Tucumcari.

Burglary is a third-degree felony that can lead up to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine. The stolen-property and tampering counts each are a fourth-degree felony that can lead up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.

According to a news release Friday from the Logan Police Department, officers there received a call March 4 about a larceny that had occurred in the village. With the help of the victim and residents, officers found the stolen property, executed a search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Fifth Street in Logan and found more stolen items from a burglary that occurred in November.

The release stated additional search warrants were executed at a home in the 400 block of Sunrise Boulevard in Logan, resulting in the recovery of more than $10,000 worth of stolen items. Gutierrez and Barranca also were arrested.

On Thursday, officers executed another search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Garrett Lane in Logan. That resulted in more stolen property being recovered and the arrest of Brown.

The news release stated Logan police received assistance from the Quay County Sheriff's Office and 10th Judicial Circuit Attorney's Office.

Barranca and Gutierrez each were booked March 5 into the Quay County Detention Center in Tucumcari and released on bond Thursday, according to jail records. Brown was booked into the jail Thursday and remained in custody Monday. Barranca and Gutierrez each were appointed a public defender — Michael Aragon for Barranca and Anna Aragon for Gutierrez. Neither attorney could be reached for comment Monday.

Brown had no lawyer listed for him in online court records.

Logan police stated the investigation into the cases is continuing. Anyone with information should call Logan police officer Michael Olivas at (575) 403-9071.
