Tucumcari softball team comes from behind

Felicity Lopez drove in five runs, including two in the sixth inning, to help lead the Tucumcari softball team to a come-from-behind 11-6 victory March 26 over Santa Rosa.

The Lady Rattlers, who improved to 4-0, led 7-6 at the bottom of the sixth when they scored four insurance runs for winning pitcher Jayden Jimenez. Lopez hit a two-run double during the rally, and Jasmine Jones added another RBI.

"Felicity came up big for us again," Tucumcari coach CJ Oglesby, noting her strong performance during the previous week's Santa Rosa tournament.

Elyse Chavez took the loss for Santa Rosa (4-2).

Loren Chavez drove in Tucumcari's first run in the first inning with a ground-rule double.

The Lady Rattlers fell behind 5-1 in the third, fueled by three errors.

Tucumcari rallied in the bottom half of the inning with four runs. Jones hit an RBI single, and Lopez rapped a two-run single during the frame.

Tucumcari took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fourth with Jones' two-run single after three walks.

Jimenez held the Lady Lions scoreless in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Logan 21, Pecos 1

The Logan girls softball team crushed district foe Pecos with 14 hits and five walks during a 21-1 romp shortened to three innings Friday by the 15-run mercy rule.

Kesleah Shields went 3-for-3 for the Lady Longhorns with two doubles and five RBI. Kyndall Ragland, who also was the winning pitcher for Logan (1-2), went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Pecos fell to 1-4.

Dora scored 11 runs in the third inning en route to a 14-2 victory over visiting Logan on March 26.

The Lady Longhorns managed seven hits in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. AnnMarie Strong and Kristi Earle each drove in runs for Logan.

Dora (2-0) piled up 14 hits and eight walks during the game.
