Tucumcari, Logan tie for 2nd at meet

The Tucumcari and Logan girls track teams tied for second place Saturday at the 20-team Mario Martinez Qualifier meet at Fort Sumner.

Melrose won the meet with 62 points, edging Tucumcari and Logan’s total of 60 apiece.

Rounding out the rest of the totals for the girl teams were Artesia JV 54, Pecos 47, Estancia 42, Hagerman 33, Fort Sumner 32, Santa Rosa 20, Clovis JV 16, Dora 13, Lake Arthur 4, Texico 3, San Jon 2 and Clovis Christian 1. Elida, Floyd, Grady, House and Mora did not score.

The first-place performers for Tucumcari were Secilee Skinner in the shot put (35 feet, 6 ? inches) and the medley relay (4 minutes, 54.54 seconds). Skinner also finished second in the discus (94 feet), as did the 400-meter relay (0:52.94) and 800 relay (1:52.94).

For Logan, Jodi Vance won the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 32.14 seconds), and Harlie Roach won the discus throw (106-8 ?). Runner-up was Kambry Burns in the high jump (4-10).

In boys competition, Logan finished third with 56? points and Tucumcari fourth with 49. Winning the meet was Santa Rosa with 85? points, while host Fort Sumner was runner-up with 68?.

Rounding out the rest of the boys standings were Pecos 44, Texico 33, Hagerman 31, Estancia 26, San Jon 16, Melrose 16, Artesia JV 11, Clovis Christian 7, Clovis JV 5?, Lake Arthur 3 and Elida 1. House, Grady, Floyd, Mora and Dora did not score.

For Tucumcari, Seth Martinez won the 400-meter dash (0:51.54) and 200 dash (0:23.74). The Rattlers’ 400-meter relay team also finished first (0:45.14), as did its medley relay (3:46.44). Casey Carter was second in the 100 dash (0:11.74).

For Logan, Dyson Day won the 100-meter dash (0:11.74) and long jump (20-4?). Steven Coronado also won the pole vault (14 feet).

For San Jon, Dustin Bryant won the high jump (6 feet) and finished second in the long jump (20-3?).

At the Meadow City Relays at Las Vegas, Tucumcari’s Martinez won both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles races, as did the Rattlers’ 400, 800 and 1,600-meter relays. Skinner won in the girls’ shot put. Because of technical problems at the meet, no other details were available.
