Tucumcari senior earns another leg

Tucumcari senior Jaxon Arguello last week captured the third leg needed to qualify for the state golf tournament.

Arguello shot 80, the minimum score needed, on Thursday during the NMMI Invitational at the New Mexico Military Institute Golf Course in Roswell.

Other Tucumcari competitors at Roswell were Malachi Anaya, who shot an 86; Jeremiah Cordova, 103; Andrew Sandoval, 108; and Rod Dunlap, 113.

The Rattlers shot a 377 at the nine-team tournament. Carlsbad won with a 338 score. Kolt Bennett of Clovis won the event with a 75.

The state tournament will be Thursday through Saturday in Hobbs. The Rattlers golf team also was scheduled to play its district tournament Monday in Roswell; a final score wasn’t available before press start.

Tucumcari had just two golfers competing April 29 at the Black Murphy Invitational in Lovington. Anaya shot an 86, and Andrew Clark shot a 98.

At the Los Alamos Invitational last week, just three Rattlers competed. Dunlap and Clark both shot a 95, and Khobie Salvador shot a 125.
