1969: Tucumcari again is the site of the annual State 4-H Horse Show, Rodeo and State 4-H Queens Contest, which has been held here for the past eight years. About 200 entries from across New Mexico are participating the horse show. About 12 entries are in the queen contest, including Quay County representative Vickie Helker.

• Gary Leger of Tucumcari received his State Farmer Degree at the 41st State FFA Convention in Albuquerque. Leger was elected president of District III and will serve as the state FFA sentinel.

• Newell Ramsey retired after 23 years as a math and science teacher at Logan schools. Born in Provo, Utah, she received her degree from Colorado College of Education in 1931. She cited impaired hearing as a reason for her retirement.

• The Odeon Theatre in Tucumcari advertised a screening of “Guns of the Magnificent Seven.” The Canal Drive-In on Tucumcari’s west side was showing a double feature of motorcycle movies — “Run, Angel, Run” and “Hells Angels on Wheels.”
