Parks announce improvements

New Mexico State Parks last week announced a multi-year improvements campaign that includes adding Wi-Fi throughout all state parks, including local favorites Ute Lake State Park in Logan and Conchas Lake State Park northwest of Tucumcari.

The campaign, called “Next Generation of Adventure,” aims to increase visitation by upgrading facilities, adding interpretive programs, improving technology, and working with partners across New Mexico. The campaign was announced Friday at Hyde Memorial State Park in Santa Fe, where Lt. Gov. Howie Morales, Tourism Deputy Cabinet Secretary Antoinette Vigil and State Parks Director Christy Tafoya attended the event.

“One of the first projects will be implementing Wi-Fi throughout the park system, allowing State Parks to accept credit cards and reduce staff time collecting cash payments,” a news release stated. “Wi-Fi will also allow for new, easier ways to book campsites throughout the system. State Parks will also tackle our maintenance backlog by upgrading facilities, improving trails, and adding new cabins and water access.”

The Next Generation of Adventure campaign also will partner with local communities, Native American tribes and nonprofit organizations for the initiative.
