Man faces felony child abuse charge

A Tucumcari man faces a felony child-abuse charge after being accused of pulling a girl’s hair and punching a car window while the child was in the vehicle.

Jeremie Oglesby, 37, was booked Thursday into the Quay County Detention Center on complaints of child abuse (first offense; placed in a dangerous situation), battery and battery against a household member.

The child abuse count is a third-degree felony that can lead to six years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Both battery counts are misdemeanors.

Tucumcari Police patrolman Nemie Salvador stated in a complaint filed Wednesday in Tucumcari magistrate court he and another officer were sent to the Trigg Memorial Hospital emergency room to investigate a domestic disturbance.

The child’s mother told police Oglesby grabbed the child’s hair from the back of her head and pulled it when he was angry. The name of the girl, who is younger than 18 years old, was redacted in the complaint.

The mother also said Oglesby also punched a driver’s side window where the girl was sitting. A witness also saw Oglesby push the mother at the hospital before he left the scene.

Oglesby was released on bond Friday. No attorney was listed for Oglesby in court records.
