Grady/San Jon ends season with loss

Grady/San Jon ended its season with a 60-18 loss at home Friday against Floyd in six-man football action.

The Coyotes trailed only 22-18 after the first quarter against visiting Floyd, but the Broncos salted away the game with 38 unanswered points.

Chad Becerra scored two rushing touchdowns for the Coyotes, and Dustin Bryant added another.

San Jon/Grady coach Adrian Jones said his team had several dropped passes that would have been touchdowns and committed several turnovers.

“We had our opportunities; we just couldn’t capitalize,” he said.

The Coyotes fell to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in District 1.

San Jon/Grady, hampered by thin roster numbers and injuries all season, did not qualify for the six-man football playoffs set to begin this weekend.

Jones said he was disappointed his team didn’t make it into the postseason, but it wasn’t from a lack of effort.

“I can’t say enough about their heart and commitment to the game and their team,” he said. “If there’s anything I can say about the team, they never gave up. Even against (No. 1-ranked) Elida, we never stopped fighting.”

Floyd improved to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the district.

Tatum 50, Logan 0

Top-ranked Tatum scored 32 points during the second quarter in a 50-0 win Friday over visiting Logan in eight-man football action.

Tatum improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in District 3 and is ranked No. 1 in the coaches’ poll. District foe Melrose also is 7-1, but Tatum defeated the Buffaloes 32-14 earlier this month.

Logan, ranked fifth, dropped to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in district play.

The Longhorns host Gateway Christian (2-5, 1-3) at 7 p.m. Friday in their regular-season finale. Melrose defeated Gateway Christian 56-0 on Friday.
