Grady/San Jon boys team falls to Springer

The Grady/San Jon boys basketball team fell behind 32-9 in the first quarter and never recovered during an 82-68 loss Saturday at Springer.

The Bronchos (5-4) trailed 52-25 at halftime during their first game after Christmas break.

“They made just about everything they shot,” Grady/San Jon coach Jonathan Langan said of Springer.

They outscored the Red Devils (9-2), ranked No. 3 in Class 1A by MaxPreps.com, 43-30 in the second half, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Chisum Rush led the Bronchos with 30 points. Isaiah Mitchell added 16 points, and Chad Becerra 10.

Santa Rosa 82, Logan 47

Logan kept the game close during the first quarter, but visiting Santa Rosa outscored the Longhorns 19-8 in the second quarter and 26-9 in the third to take control during an 82-47 Logan loss Friday.

Dante Sanchez led the Longhorns with 19 points, who fell to 8-4 after the game.

“We flat-out got outplayed,” Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said. “Santa Rosa’s a good team, very disciplined, and we were coming off a long break and the shots weren’t falling.”

Griffiths said the Lions’ seemingly mediocre 6-5 record is deceiving because they played teams with much larger enrollments early in the season. Santa Rosa is ranked sixth in Class 2A by MaxPreps.com.
