The Logan girls basketball team wrapped up a perfect regular-season district run Thursday with a 66-25 victory over visiting Grady/San Jon.
The Lady Longhorns, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, improved to 22-3 overall and 8-0 in District 6. They will host the title game in this week’s district tournament at 6 p.m. Friday.
Kyndall Ragland led Logan with 17 points, and Karli Webb added 12.
“We started a little slow but looked good the second half,” Logan coach Glynna Strand said. “It’s always hard this time of year when you’re playing only one game a week. The weeks get long and monotonous.”
Bailey Montoya led the Lady Bronchos with nine points, and Krissy Grau added seven.
Grady/San Jon trailed just 22-14 at intermission before Logan poured it on with a 44-11 second half.
“We played with them for a half; I was very pleased with our effort,” Lady Bronchos coach Alicia Rush said. “We ran out of gas in the second half. Logan is a good team with a deep bench. Good teams always play well when they need to; we are learning that.”
Grady/San Jon fell to 6-16, 0-8.
Grady/San Jon is the fifth-seed and plays at fourth-seed Clovis Christian on Monday night. A final score of that game wasn’t available before deadline. The winner of that game played Tuesday night at Fort Sumner, and the semifinal would be at second-seeded Melrose at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Melrose 67, Grady/San Jon 32
The No. 2-ranked Lady Buffaloes grabbed a 39-16 lead by halftime Feb. 18 en route to a 67-32 victory over visiting Grady/San Jon.
Isabelle Martinez led the Lady Bronchos with eight points.
Hailey Martin scored 22 points for Melrose (19-4. 4-2).
“Obviously, Melrose is good,” Rush said. “We are working to hold our own and not being run over. As far as what we are working on every day in practice, I can see improvement. However, as we improve, so does everyone else.”
