Shipley earns all-state honors

Tucumcari senior Ashley Shipley last week earned all-state honors in Class 3A a third straight time.

Logan's Karli Webb and Jordan Hines also earned all-state honors in Class 1A after the Lady Longhorns finished runner-up in the state tournament.

The New Mexico High School Coaches Association announced its annual all-state teams for both boys and girls basketball last week.

Shipley, the Lady Rattlers' point guard and captain, helped lead her team to a 19-11 record and the quarterfinals while amassing team-highs in points per game (21.1), rebounds (9.2), assists (5.4) and free-throw shooting percentage (81%).

The Lady Rattlers finished 19-11, losing in quarterfinals to eventual state champion and No. 1 seed Navajo Prep. Shipley scored 38 points in that game.

During her career at Tucumcari, Shipley totaled 1,583 points, 763 rebounds, 544 assists and 461 steals.

Shipley will play at Texas A&M-Commerce next season.

Class 3A state champion Navajo Prep had three all-state players this season - Hailey Martin, Laila Charley and Aiona Johnson, all juniors. Senior Tavyn Trujillo of Hatch Valley rounded out the first team.

The Class 3A second team included Tohatchi's Krystal Benally and Cameron Tsosie, Robertson's Tessa Ortiz, West Las Vegas' Briana Marquez and Tularosa's Shacie Marr.

Webb averaged a team-leading 13.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, and Hines averaged 10 points and 4.1 rebounds for the 25-5 Lady Longhorns.

Rounding out the rest of the Class 1A first team were Nataley Mondragon and Hailey Martin of state champion Melrose and Roy/Mosquero's Riley Clavel.

The Class 1A second team included Melrose's Shannon May, Fort Sumner's Keeli West, Pine Hill's Maurie Daniels, Mountainair's Alyssa Bargas and Quemado's Siera Green.
