Third COVID-19 case in three days reported in county

The third confirmed case of coronavirus in as many days was reported Wednesday in Quay County.

The New Mexico Department of Health reported the latest case is a woman age 50 to 59 from the Logan ZIP code. It was the second straight day a person from Logan had tested positive for COVID-19.

Department of Health spokesman David Morgan stated in an email Wednesday evening a Logan couple had been tested and confirmed with COVID-19 out of state. Their results were added to their home county and ZIP code of residence in the state's coronavirus database.

After weeks of no reported activity with the virus, Quay County has recorded four such cases in 13 days.

Of the nine cases of COVID-19 reported in the county, three have recovered, with one death.

More than 640 people in Quay County have been tested for the virus.

A total of 290 people in New Mexico were reported with COVID-19 on Wednesday, the seventh consecutive day it had surpassed the 200 mark.

More than 14,000 cases of COVID-19 in New Mexico have been reported since the pandemic began.

Eight deaths were reported in the state Wednesday, bringing the total to 527.

A total of 154 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 – a jump of more than 20 from the previous day.

A total of 6,051 have been deemed as recovered from the disease.

Through Wednesday afternoon, more than 3 million people in the United States have been confirmed with the virus, with more than 132,000 deaths.
