Pasadena Playboys touring

The Pasadena Playboys will be making two stops in Tucumcari, including at the Motel Safari on Saturday night, during their "American Motel Tour."

The California retro-country duo will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Motel Safari via livestream on their Facebook page at facebook.com/thepasadenaplayboys. Singer/songwriter and frequent collaborator Caitlin Eadie will join them on the tour.

On the return home, they will perform Aug. 14 at Tucumcari's Blue Swallow Motel.

They noted the shows in Tucumcari for now are not public events, especially with public gatherings being banned by the state's health order.

"We'd love for the people of Tucumcari to tune in and watch the event from the comfort of their own homes or tune in on their phone and listen as they do a drive by," Pasadena Playboys member Jake Kelly stated in an email. "But we are not encouraging - actually we discourage - people not obeying any safety law or mandate.

"If the ban is lifted and there's room for an audience, this is an outdoor, social-distancing, mask-required event," he added. "We're traveling across the country and have no desire to be patient zero in the next town we play, let alone bring COVID-19 back to our family and friends in LA."

The Pasadena Playboys aim to eventually get to Nashville during the tour, where they will shop to record labels songs they wrote during the coronavirus pandemic.

"We've had nothing on our hands but failed bread dough," singer Kelly Kidd said about the pandemic downtime.

"I wanted to do something real, something positive, something good for our mental health, but also something for the struggling independent business owners during this difficult time," Kidd added. "Our calendar was cleared with cancellations, and we thought this tour would be a great opportunity to help promote mom-and-pop motels amid this great crisis."

The Pasadena Playboys also are performing in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana during the tour.
