1970: The San Jon Future Teachers of America will host the annual Miss San Jon Pageant on Saturday in the San Jon Sportatorium. Contestants are Angie Wooten, Bobbye Thrasher, Vicki Parvin, Rayma Terry, Linda Irving, Janice Paris, Mary Ann Cordova, Mary Ann Malone and Ann Reed. Laura Fox, the reigning Miss San Jon, will crown the winner. Emceeing the event will be Norm Stratton of KICA in Clovis.
• An 8-year-old girl was struck and injured by a car as she was riding a bicycle at Tucumcari Boulevard and Sixth Street. The woman who drove the car took the girl to her mother's apartment after the accident. The girl later was admitted to Trigg Memorial Hospital after feeling pain in her legs.
• Mrs. Lewis Szabo showed off a 12 1/4-pound cantaloupe and said others of similar size had grown at her home two miles east of Tucumcari and north of U.S. 66. The largest cantaloupe measured 30 inches in circumference.
