Two COVID-19 cases in county Saturday

The New Mexico Department of Health on Saturday reported two confirmed cases of coronavirus in Quay County on the second-worst day in the state since the pandemic began.

The latest cases were male and female. One was a child up to age 10 and the other age 60 to 69, both from the Tucumcari ZIP code, according to the agency's website.

That increased the county's total to 79 since the pandemic began. A total of 41 cases have been reported in the Tucumcari ZIP code, 33 in Logan and five in San Jon.

A total of 50 people in the county have been deemed as recovered from the virus, with two deaths since the pandemic began. A total of 2,058 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the county.

Statewide, 486 new cases of the virus were reported in New Mexico, two lower than the previous day's record of 488.

Bernalillo County had 167 cases on Saturday.

The total cases in New Mexico since the pandemic began in March is 32,722. About 18,600 are deemed to have recovered.

Five deaths were reported in the state Saturday, bringing the total to 907. A total of 130 people are hospitalized with the disease.

East of Quay County, the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the Amarillo metro area rose to 2,950 on Friday, the latest data available.

In the U.S., the number of confirmed coronavirus cases was 7.7 million, with more than 214,000 deaths as of Saturday afternoon.
