Record eight coronavirus cases reported Saturday in county

Quay County set a record Saturday with eight confirmed cases of coronavirus in one day – all in the Tucumcari ZIP code.

It was the most since Aug. 20, when the county saw seven cases.

The COVID-19 cases brought the Tucumcari area's total to 100 since the pandemic began.

A total of 41 cases have been reported in the county in November.

The latest cases in Quay County, according to the DOH database, were four females and four males. The age breakdowns were one age 9 and younger, three age 30 to 39, one age 40 to 49, one age 50 to 59 and two age 60 to 69.

The total number of cases in the county since the pandemic began rose to 148, with two deaths.

The breakdown by ZIP code is 100 in Tucumcari, 36 in Logan, five in San Jon, three in House, three in McAlister and one in Grady (part of which extends into the county).

In the state, the DOH on Saturday reported 1,180 cases. The total number since the pandemic began surpassed 63,000.

A total of 335 cases were reported in Bernalillo County, with 162 in Dona Ana County.

Ten deaths were reported Saturday, raising the overall total to more than 1,200.

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 stood at 480 on Saturday.

In Amarillo, the metro area on Friday hit a new high with more than 6,200 active cases of the disease, with a hospitalization rate of over 30%.

In the U.S., more than 10.8 million confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported through Saturday since the pandemic began, with more than 245,000 deaths.
