Five COVID-19 cases reported in county Wednesday

Five more cases of coronavirus were reported Wednesday in Quay County by the New Mexico Department of Health.

Four of the cases were in the Tucumcari ZIP code, with another in the Grady ZIP code, part of which extends into Quay County.

Five females were affected in the latest counts. The age breakdowns were one up to age 10, one age 20 to 29, two age 60 to 69 and one age 70 to 79.

The total in the county since the pandemic began rose to 372, with eight deaths. A total of 204 people have been deemed as recovered from the virus.

The case breakdown by ZIP code since the pandemic began is 286 in Tucumcari, 51 in Logan, nine in House, eight in McAlister, seven in San Jon, four in Nara Visa, two in Bard and two in Grady (which has a total of 11 overall).

Everyone’s Federal Credit Union in Tucumcari on Tuesday was placed on the state’s COVID-19 watch list after recording two cases among employees there in a 14-day period. Both those cases were reported by the state’s rapid-response database on Monday. The public health order mandates certain establishments close for two weeks if they have four or more rapid responses within 14 days.

A COVID-19 rapid response also was referred to the Quay County Assessor’s Office in Tucumcari for one employee case reported Tuesday.

A typical rapid response consists of isolating positive cases, quarantining close contacts for 14 days, ceasing operations to the extent necessary to isolate affected areas, disinfecting these areas, implementing safety procedures and resuming operations. Typically, operations are ceased for fewer than 24 hours before it is safe to reopen.

In New Mexico, a total of 1,151 new COVID-19 cases were reported Wednesday, bringing the overall total to more than 159,000 since the pandemic began.

A total of 13 deaths were reported Wednesday, increasing that total to 2,807.

A total of 702 people were hospitalized with the disease, a total that has been mostly stable in recent days.

The Amarillo metro region reported more than 3,100 active cases of the disease with a 21% hospitalization rate, both numbers which have been stable in recent days.

In the U.S., the total number of coronavirus cases rose to more than 23 million, with more than 383,000 deaths, on Wednesday.
