1971: A 7-year-old child was pronounced dead on arrival at Trigg Memorial Hospital and three family members from Duncan, Oklahoma, were admitted for evaluation after the child apparently asphyxiated from carbon monoxide poisoning. The family was en route to McChord Air Force Base in Washington state in a car they recently purchased. A hospital spokesman said three surviving family members were in good condition.

• District Judge J.V. Gallegos ordered the dismissal of two charges of LSD possession against a defendant after the district attorney could not produce a witness for the case and lacked a lab report from federal drug authorities in Dallas that proved the confiscated substance was the hallucinogen.

• The Tucumcari Public Library will be closed until further notice due to its move into its new building on Second Street. An announcement will be made in the future as when the new library will open.
