Tucumcari girls notch third win

The Tucumcari softball team notched its third win of the season last week when it split a June 8 doubleheader at Estancia.

The Lady Rattlers, which ended the week with a 3-10 record, lost the first game 16-6 but won the second 33-19.

Sage Knapp was the winning pitcher for the Lady Rattlers in the nightcap, striking out nine and helping her cause with nine RBI.

Felicity Lopez also drove in seven runs for Tucumcari, including a hit off the wall. Haisley Huffman hit an inside-the-park home run, stole five bases and drove in four runs.

“Catcher Amaya Infante caught another awesome game and hit the ball well (with) four RBI,” Tucumcari coach CJ Oglesby said.

He also praised eighth-grader Kylee Carmichael, who played second base during the doubleheader, “played a heck of a game in the field” and went 6-for-8 with four RBI.

Estancia’s record stood at 6-5 after the twinbill.

Santa Rosa 18, Tucumcari 7

A six-run third inning by the Lady Lions proved decisive during an 18-7 victory over Tucumcari on June 9.

Santa Rosa (10-7) led 7-6 after two innings before the outburst in the third. The Lady Lions five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to seize control.

The Lady Lions totaled 10 hits and six walks to fuel their offense.

Santa Rosa helped its caused by executing three double plays.

East Mountain 17, Tucumcari 2

The Wolverines continued their strong play in District 4/5 with a 17-2 win over Tucumcari on Saturday.

East Mountain improved to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in district play.
