Logan captures No. 1 seed

Logan captured the No. 1 seed in this week’s Class 1A baseball state championship and has a chance to play for the title Thursday at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Logan (13-1) was scheduled to host fourth-seeded Magdalena (11-5) at 11 a.m. Tuesday in a semifinal matchup. (Game results were after the Quay County Sun’s print deadline; results will be reported in the next edition.)

The winner will play the victor of the other semifinal — second-seeded Gateway Christian (11-4) versus third-seeded Mesilla Valley Christian (3-4). Logan won two of three games against Gateway during the regular season.

The championship will be played UNM’s diamond Thursday at a time to be determined.

Logan closed its regular season with a 32-1 victory June 14 at Cimarron.

The Longhorns seized control with 11 runs in the second inning and 12 in the fourth.

Garrett Bollinger, Wyatt Wright and Skyler DeLuca each drove in three runs for Logan to lead a 23-hit attack that included 12 doubles and two triples.

Logan starting pitcher Bollinger allowed two hits, walked three and stuck out five for the win.
