Maestas wins Tucumcari municipal judge race

Christopher Maestas prevailed in a three-way battle for Tucumcari municipal judge among a flurry of local races decided during the local general election Tuesday.

Maestas, a retired teacher, gained 244 votes for the judge’s seat. Willis Hendrickson, the husband of former municipal judge Noreen Hendrickson who was promoted to magistrate judge earlier this year, finished a distant second with 94 votes. Tommy Snapp was third with 59 votes.

Robert Lucero defeated Cassie Huffman 86-30 for the District 2 position for the Tucumcari school board. The current seatholder, Leif Gray, did not run for re-election.

Joe Patton prevailed over Eva Harding for the open seat in the mayor’s race for House. For Positions 1 and 2 on the village’s board, Matthew Cramblet received the most votes, and Steven Foust and Anita Allen tied for second.

In Position 3 on the village board, Ronald McGee and John Snipes tied with 19 votes apiece.

Quay County Clerk Ellen White wasn’t sure but surmised the winner of the tied House races, if the numbers hold, would be determined by drawings from a hat.

For the House school board, Lori Foust won by nearly 2-to-1 over Stoney Shoemaker in Position 2. In Position 1, Randall Lee defeated incumbent Calvin Downey by a similar margin.

In the Logan school district, Toby Jon Willis defeated incumbent Tom Humble for Position 5.

For the Logan village board, Jai Courtney easily downed Brian Cox for Position 1.

Voters in the Logan, San Jon and House school districts also approved bond renewals by comfortable margins.

Results were unofficial.

White said turnout in Quay County generally was light except for a few pockets where there were contested races.
