Police seek person using possible bear spray

The Tucumcari Police Department issued an alert last week asking residents to be on the lookout for a white person who inexplicably is using what is believed to be bear spray on passersby and passing vehicles.

“We have taken numerous reports regarding this subject,” the department stated Friday on social media. “Please be aware of your surroundings, especially after dark and keep your vehicles secured. If you or anyone you know recognizes the subject please contact Central Dispatch” at 911.

The post included several blurry nighttime images from the inside of a vehicle of the person that police stated is wearing a long black coat.

Bear spray is a deterrent made of pepper oil that can irritate the eyes, throat and lungs. It can cause permanent eye damage in some instances.
