Logan boys go 1-2 at Dora tournament

A young and inexperienced Logan boys basketball team went 1-2 during last week’s season-opening Dora Tournament, including a 53-43 loss Saturday to Roy/Mosquero in the third-place game.

Logan kept Saturday’s game close most of the way, but Roy/Mosquero closed the fourth quarter with an 18-10 run to seal its victory.

“We learned quite a bit this weekend on what we need to do to get better,” Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said. “Just have to practice and work on them. It’s early in the season, and we will work to get things turned around quickly.”

Brock Burns led the Longhorns with 15 points against, and teammate Kaeden Stoner added eight points.

Fort Sumner won the tournament by defeating Elida 83-73 in the title game Saturday.

Logan 64, Dexter JV 19

Logan bounced back from its season-opening loss at the tournament with a 52-45 victory Friday over the Dexter junior varsity.

Burns scored 31 points to lead Logan, and Christian Kotara added 12.

Elida 63, Logan 42

The Longhorns suffered a season-opening loss 63-42 loss Thursday to Elida at the Dora Tournament.

“We have a young team that doesn’t have a lot of varsity experience. It showed tonight,” Griffiths said. “The talent is there, but it’s going to take a little time to get where we want to be.

Griffiths added that Elida “plays hard and are physical on defense. We struggled with their pressure most of the night.”

Burns led Logan with 11 points. Stoner and Skyler DeLuca each added eight points.

Elida ended with week with a 3-1 record.
