Severe winds reported across New Mexico

A gust of 76 mph east of Tucumcari was reported amid severe winds reported Wednesday throughout much of New Mexico.

According to trained weather spotters for the National Weather Service, the 76 mph gust was reported nine miles east-northeast of Tucumcari.

Another NWS spotter reported a 74 mph gust that day seven miles east-northeast of the city.

The NWS station at Tucumcari Municipal Airport reported a wind gust of 63 mph in the late morning of Wednesday. Other gusts of 62 and 61 mph were reported there that day.

Paul Lucero, Quay County’s emergency manager, and Sheriff Russell Shafer said they received no reports of damage in the county.

Quay County Emergency Management issued a high wind warning the day before.

Trained spotters also reported a 51 mph gust one mile west of Conchas and a 60 mph gust 12 miles east-northeast of Bell Ranch. A 76 mph gust was reported two miles east-northeast of Clayton.
